In less than a decade, Eigen Energy has emerged as an innovator and a leading player in Southeast Asia’s low-carbon energy transition. Today, the Singapore-based company counts industry giants such as multinational energy firm Shell and electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Tesla among its customers. As a sustainable energy infrastructure integrator, its mainstays include solar panel systems, battery storage and, increasingly, an expanding array of EV charging set‑ups.

Eigen Energy’s driven approach has a clear goal: To make green energy productive, accessible and part of daily life for consumers and businesses. “People had their doubts when we started, and that’s fair,” said Ms Geraldina Koh, its country head of Thailand and a key member of the leadership team. “But our team put in the work and gave it their all to build Eigen Energy into what you see today.”

The move to e-mobility

As the world embraced sustainable infrastructure, Eigen Energy shifted its focus to the EV charging market. This strategic pivot, which began in 2017, has since become one of the company’s fastest-growing areas. “Switching to sustainable infrastructure also involves reducing carbon emissions in transportation and logistics,” Ms Koh said.

The decision aligned with the growing public interest in EVs, which was further bolstered by Singapore’s Green Plan. Now, EV charging makes up about 30 per cent of Eigen Energy’s business. The company remains optimistic that this sector will continue to expand significantly throughout the decade.

A stand-out collaboration with Shell saw the launch of Singapore’s first smart service stations powered by clean energy and equipped with high-powered EV chargers. Eigen Energy rolled out integrated smart energy management systems at three Shell service stations, enabling EV charging entirely through certified renewable energy.

The project received partial funding from a grant by the Singapore Energy Market Authority and Shell, with support from Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG). This grant aimed to foster innovation, support local companies and strengthen capabilities in energy storage and digitalisation. Digital transformation has also driven Eigen Energy’s growth in e-mobility, with the company leveraging advanced software and systems to improve performance and sustainability.

Reaching for new heights

Looking ahead, Eigen Energy plans to expand into related fields such as building efficiency and smart energy management. These areas are a natural progression as the company strives to offer more comprehensive energy solutions. “To fully unlock the potential of our solutions, we need to integrate them with other systems and evaluate how they perform together,” Ms Koh said.

Eigen Energy’s vision is ambitious: To become a leading provider of eco-friendly infrastructure in the region. “Southeast Asia is still growing fast, and people will need more energy,” said Ms Koh. “The real test is meeting this demand while helping societies and economies switch to greener infrastructure.”
